Saints got a great reception at Stair Park as home players and ball boys lined up to cheer the First Division champions.

And they went on to demonstrate in a goalless first half the title was deserved, establishing an early grip on the game and staying on top without expending a great deal of effort.

Chances were few and far between and the bulk and the best of them fell to Saints who would have been ahead in the opening minutes but for a super last minute touch over by Stranraer keeper Barry-John Corr when Billy Mehmet almost caught him out with a clever lob.

The keeper had no chance later when Stewart Kean at close range got his head to a Charlie Adam's free-kick but this time the crossbar saved Stranraer.

Lee Sharp produced the only real chance for the home side in the first half, his 35-yard free-kick just clearing the Saints bar.

After the break Stranraer looked better and struck forward more yet it was in this period that Saints scored and claimed the points at stake.

For Mehmet the 76th minute goal, his second in two weeks, was the light to the touchpaper which started real celebrations among the many Saints fans. And though keeper Corr had managed to block Mehmet's first shot he made no mistake with the follow-up.

The score produced what can only be described as a correct result. Stranraer fought hard but there was no doubt throughout which side were the League Champions.
